Natalie Piznar Selected To Play In Senior All-Star Matches
Natalie Piznar, Clear Creek High School's senior libero, was selected to play in the second annual Greater Houston Volleyball Coaches Association (GHVCA) Senior All-Star Tournament. The senior player showcase will be held on Saturday, February 4th, 2012 at Pearland High School. The GHVCA tournament will feature 44 of the Houston area's best senior volleyball players divided in to four teams. Natalie will play on the North All-Star squad while Clear Creek High School head coach, Scott Simonds, will be an assistant coach on the South team. Natalie will also compete in the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) Senior All-Star match as a member of the Class 5A/4A East team on July 11 in Arlington.
Head coach, Scott Simonds, was named the District 24-5A Coach of the Year for the 5th time in his eight years as Clear Creek High School's varsity head coach. His varsity teams have averaged 29 wins a season and have captured the District 24-5A Championship in six of his eight years. Coach Simonds has been named the Galveston County Coach of the Year four times and the Houston Area Coach of the Year once. He was named an assistant coach of the 2011-2012 Greater Houston Volleyball Coach's Association (GHVCA) South Senior All-Star team.
Natalie Piznar, 5'4" Senior Libero, was named to the All-District 24-5A first team, Academic All-District team, All-Galveston County first team, Academic All-State Senior team, Greater Houston Area Coaches Association Senior All-Star team, Texas Girls Coaches Association Senior All-Star team, Texas Girls Coaches Association 5A All-State selection and Honorable Mention for LoneStarVolleyball.com's Texas Outstanding Libero Award. Natalie tallied 705 digs on the season and averaged 5.8 digs/set. She served 36 aces and had a 93.4% service completion while also compiling 816 service receptions. Natalie was awarded the Clear Creek High School Hustle Award and the Tri-Most Valuable Player Award at the End of Year Banquet.
Ashley Smith, 6'1"Junior Outside Hitter, was named the Most Valuable Player of District 24-5A, All-District first team, Academic All-District team, Galveston County Offensive Player of the Year, All-Galveston County first team, Vype Magazine's Houston Area second team, Texas Girls Coaches Association 5A All-State selection and a Finalist for LoneStarVolleyball.com's Texas Outstanding Hitter Award. During the season, she was named Houston Chronicle Player of the Week and Lone Star Volleyball Texas Player of the Week. Ashley ended the season ranked #1 in Texas and #5 Nationally in total kills with 793 which broke the previous Clear Creek High School record that she set last year (589). She averaged 6.0 kills/set and had a 50.8% kill percentage which garnered her the #2 ranking in Texas and the #30 ranking Nationally among outside hitters. She served 41 aces and had a 91.5% service completion while contributing 41 blocks, 452 digs and 732 service receptions. Ashley was awarded the Clear Creek High School Captain and the Tri-Most Valuable Player Award at the End of Year Banquet. She has verbally commited to play collegiate volleyball at Texas Christian University (TCU) when she graduates in 2013.
Courtney Richardson, 5'10" Junior Setter, was named the District 24-5A Setter of the Year, All-District first team, Academic All-District team, Galveston County Setter of the Year, All-Galveston County first team and Honorable Mention for LoneStarVolleyball.com's Texas Outstanding Setter Award. During the season, she was named MaxPrep/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Texas Player of the Week, Houston Chronicle Player of the Week and a finalist for Lone Star Volleyball Texas Player of the Week. Courtney ended the season ranked #1 in Texas and #7 Nationally in total assists with 1415 which fell short of breaking the Clear Creek High School record of 1432 assists that she set last year. She averaged 10.72 assists/set which ranked her #1 in Texas and #25 Nationally among setters. She was the only Texas setter among the seven setters Nationally that surpassed the 1400 assists mark during the season. She served a team leading 53 aces and had a 89.0% service completion while contributing 25 blocks and 247 digs. She also had 63 kills and a 46.3% kill percentage. Courtney was awarded the Clear Creek High School Tri-Most Valuable Player Award at the End of Year Banquet.
Ariel Froeschl, 6'0"Junior Middle, was named to the All-District 24-5A first team, Academic All-District team, All-Galveston County first team and Honorable Mention for LoneStarVolleyball.com's Texas Outstanding Hitter Award. Ariel lead the team with 44 blocks and compiled a total of 173 kills along with a 43.1% kill percentage. She managed these numbers in spite of missing 47 sets of the 132 sets that Clear Creek played in due to a back injury early in the season.
Kaela Ibrahim, 5'9" Senior Right Side, was named to the All-District 24-5A second team and the All-Galveston County Honorable Mention team. Kaela had 116 kills with a 38.0% kill percentage. She also provided 19 blocks, 31 digs and 22 assists. Kaela played her way through a sore shoulder during the season after having surgery just before the season began.
Laura Hickman, 5'8" Senior Defensive Specialist, was named to the All-District 24-5A Honorable Mention team, Academic All-District team and Academic All-State Senior team. Laura was a very consistent defensive back row player and provided 185 digs, 7 assists and 197 service receptions. She was awarded the Clear Creek High School Spirit Award at the End of Year Banquet.
Courtney Childers, 5'5" Junior Defensive Specialist, was named to the All-District 24-5A Honorable Mention team and the Academic All-District team. Courtney was a big part of Clear Creek's solid defensive back row and she was awarded the Clear Creek High School Hustle Award at the End of Year Banquet.
